On 18th September 2023, Canadian Prime Minister announced that involvement of a foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is unacceptable violation of our sovereignty.
Trudeau said that there is credible intelligence that India was behind the fatal shooting of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, outside the Sikh house of
worship in June.
A Sikh community activist, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who advocated for a separate Sikh state of Khalistan was assassinated on 18th June 2024 at Surrey, BC, Canada. India claims Nijjar was a terrorist but the Sikh supporters and Sikhs for Justice, a Sikh organization claim the allegations by the Indian government are unfounded.
Trudeau added that over past no of weeks, the Canadian security agencies , have been actively pursuing credible allegations of the potential link between agents of the govt of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar was actively leading the Punjab Referendum, along with Gurpatwant Singh Pannu (American Citizen), whereby voting has been held across many countries with about 15 lakhs of Sikhs have participated and voted, till today Sept 2024.
